The BBC has officially named Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and Johannes Radebe as the new hosts of the beloved dance competition, Strictly Come Dancing, ushering in a fresh era for the award-winning show.

Replacing Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who departed after many memorable seasons, this trio promises to bring renewed energy and enthusiasm to the ballroom. Emma Willis expressed her excitement, stating, "As a huge fan of the show, stepping into the Strictly ballroom is something I can't quite comprehend."

Comedian Josh Widdicombe echoed similar sentiments, revealing he was "giddy with excitement, honoured, and a little overawed to be given the chance to step into the biggest shoes in television." Meanwhile, professional dancer Johannes Radebe reflected on his new role by saying, "Returning to Strictly Come Dancing in this capacity is beyond anything I ever imagined."

This marks the first time in Strictly's history that it will feature three permanent hosts, although the late Sir Bruce Forsyth previously shared presenting duties with Winkleman during his tenure.

Behind the Selection

The announcement follows an extensive audition process that featured several renowned television personalities undergoing screen tests. Notable figures including Zoe Ball participated, with Ball humorously recounting her "seven stages of grief and rejection" after learning she did not make the cut.

Strictly’s executive producer, Sarah James, praised the dynamic trio, asserting that their chemistry was evident the moment they came together. “It’s unexpected, but their magic was undeniable,” she remarked, highlighting the innovative decision to shift towards a trio format.

Judging and Dancing Updates

Alongside the new hosting team, judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke are set to return for the upcoming series, which is scheduled to launch this autumn. However, it has been confirmed that five professional dancers will not be returning, with the lineup to include fifteen of last year’s dancers along with promising new talent from the international dance scene.

Kate Phillips, the BBC’s chief content officer, acknowledged the rigorous selection process and expressed her relief at finally unveiling the new hosts. “There's been so much speculation and hype, so I’m relieved we can share the news with the public at last! The most beloved ballroom in the UK always leads the way, and in a Strictly first, we have chosen three outstanding hosts to take up the mantle,” she stated.

Meet the New Hosts

Emma Willis transitioned from a modeling career to become a prominent television presenter, initially making waves on MTV in 2002. She became a household name while hosting Big Brother and its various spin-offs, and she also portrayed a significant role in UK’s talent show, The Voice.

Josh Widdicombe, a stand-up comedian known for his work on shows like Taskmaster and The Last Leg, brings humor and charm to the ensemble, while Johannes Radebe, a celebrated dancer from South Africa, has been captivating audiences since joining the UK version of Strictly in 2018.

With their diverse backgrounds and electrifying chemistry, the new hosting trio is poised to deliver an unforgettable season as they step into the spotlight of the famous dance competition.
