In a significant boost to the confidence of cryptocurrency enthusiasts, Zooko Wilcox, co-founder of Zcash, announced that Anthropic's cutting-edge AI model, Mythos, has identified no further critical vulnerabilities within the Zcash protocol. This finding comes on the heels of a previous forgery bug that recently raised alarms within the community.
During a security audit commissioned by the Swiss-based non-profit Shielded Labs, Mythos' review revealed that the privacy-preserving cryptocurrency remains intact, dispelling fears of deeper systemic issues. Wilcox shared the update via a post on X over the weekend, confirming that there were “no more serious bugs” detected following a swift remediation of the earlier-found forgery vulnerability.
On June 3rd, Zcash developers had temporarily halted all Orchard transactions due to a critical vulnerability in the shielded pool. This functionality was promptly restored the same day through an emergency upgrade. The original flaw stemmed from a longstanding forgery bug, uncovered with the assistance of Anthropic's Claude Opus model by security researcher Taylor Hornby. Reassuringly, the Zcash Foundation clarified that there was no evidence of exploitation related to the vulnerability, nor was there any unauthorized creation of value, ensuring that user privacy remained untouched during the incident.
